Advances in economics, nutrition, general knowledge, technology, and medicine have greatly changed the life expectancy of humans in the 21st century.

In 1900, the life expectancy was at a low of 45 years of age. One of the main reasons was due to the poor medical care and absence of vaccinations. Many diseases took the life of "young" men, women, and children. Also, the lack of nutrition among the working class played a huge role in the wellness of individuals.

The trend began, and we started to see fewer deaths due to disease and a rise in lifespan age. How was this happening? Some say it was because infants/children lived. However, we know it was due to the changes in the overall American society.

In the 20th century, economics took a massive turn following the Great Depression. By 1945, America became financially powerful, while many other countries suffered from war devastation. During this time, America advanced in many areas, which created an improved lifestyle for the generations to come.

In 1920-1930, nutritional deficiencies became a national worry, which led to research hoping for a healthier society. Chemist began to discover essential vitamins and nutrients that our body needed to survive. Manufacturers began to produce healthy foods, leading to a healthier lifestyle among many Americans.

The increase of technology boomed in the 20th century with the invention of transportation vehicles, mass communication, and medical machinery. It became easier to reach a doctor with the invention of a car, allowing at home visits and easier accessibility to hospitals. The telephone also gave way to immediate help, and gave assistance in all workplaces. Lastly, advances in medical machinery such as X-Rays, subatomic particles, and radioactivity helped immensely for injured/sick people.

In the 1900's, scientists began discovering new aspects of the human body, such as how it functions, contracts disease/virus, and fights infection. Vaccinations began to be created, which completely eliminated smallpox and polio. Cures for various illnesses saved thousands of lives across the U.S. Also, Pharmacies were established in many towns, allowing access to medicines. The medical advanced allowed for a healthier America and gave way to longer life expectancy.

By 1995, the general knowledge of people and community resources created had greatly expanded the lives of many. All of the factors listed above have played a major role in where our society was in 1995, and we have continually discovered new things since. 1995 was a time of new beginnings, considering that the 21st century was right around the corner.

Life expectancy in the USA rose in 2012 to 78.8 years – a record high.
